Winning performance by ISS' Southbank team

Congratulations to ISS Technical Services’ Southbank Centre team – the power behind the British Academy of Film and Television Arts (BAFTA) TV Awards ceremony for the fourth year running
Southbank Centre is the UK’s largest arts centre, with a resident team of 32 ISS staff controlling the 17-acre site’s mechanical and electrical maintenance needs 24 hours a day, 364 days a year.

ISS’ team has managed all power and electricity for the prestigious BAFTA TV Awards for four years in a row, working to tight timescales and diverse requirements. This year was no exception and saw the team pulling together in the run up to, during and after the event on 12th May 2019.

Wayne Bass, contract manager for ISS Technical Services
, said: “While we knew when the event was taking place, the requirements and power arrangements change from year to year – so we can’t plan in advance.

“When we received the final plans on 3rd May with just nine days to go, we were determined to go the extra mile and play our part in ensuring the event’s success. We were also able to apply what we’ve learnt from previous years.”

This year’s BAFTA TV Awards – which celebrates the best in television broadcasting on British screens each year –  was held at Southbank Centre’s Grade 1 listed Royal Festival Hall and welcomed some 2,900 VIPs.

Wayne continued: “As well as ensuring that all power sources and equipment operate safely on the night, key to our role is being on hand and responsive to changing needs. For example, we had to move and re-connect a drinks station within minutes to meet the client’s needs on the night.

“I’m hugely proud of the team and what we achieved in the lead up to the day, during the show and after. We all put in the extra hours and energy to contribute to a successful event – something we do very well together.

“Special thanks goes to team member Bradley Fowler, who acted as our electrical lead on the day. Bradley is currently in the final year of his electrical apprenticeship with us and is already a great asset to ISS.”
