Our hearts are with all who are in harm's way as a result of the invasion of Ukraine. In the wake of this, ISS has taken a number of actions to help those affected by the escalating horrific humanitarian crisis. We are continuously building on our efforts as the crisis unfolds.
We also support the selfless voluntary actions of our employees. Sebastian Orzechowski, from our ISS Hub Warsaw office, is just one of our many employees offering on the ground help.
With more than 2 million Ukrainians fleeing into Poland, Sebastian and his family have opened their home to a mother and her 14-year-old son fleeing from Odesa.
‘’As we saw the humanitarian situation rapidly deteriorate, we felt that the best way we could help was to give shelter to a Ukrainian family,’’ says Sebastian.
To reach Poland, the mother and son spent a terrifying three days travelling from Odesa in their small car, taking all they could in just two shopping bags and one small carry-on luggage.
Sebastian is helping the family by providing basics like clothes, food, shampoo and toothpaste.
Although safe, there are still many challenges ahead. ‘’They are in a foreign country, relying on the kindness of others, with no idea of what is going to happen next or when,’’ adds Sebastian. “We can provide a home, food, and even hugs, but unfortunately we can’t fix the situation.’’
