Centralized procurement to accelerate decision-making
Indirect procurement cost has grown at an annual rate of approximately 7% globally since 2011. In the traditional cost optimization, companies tend to focus on production-related direct materials rather than indirect procurement. However, indirect procurement spending at an advanced manufacturing company could account for up to 23% of the total cost.
For large multinational manufacturing companies, there is a wide geographical distribution and large operation gap between sites. Thus, procurement related to facility operation is highly fragmented, accompanying by inconsistent decision and financial question. With ISS served as its IFM partner, the number of ABB's third-party service providers decreased by up to 42%.
With a standardized service system and efficient centralized model, ISS has significantly reduced management work for ABB. ISS also provides clear financial tracking, helping ABB to expand its core business areas and improve performance.
Quick response with digital tracking
Utilizing the FMS@ISS and IBM TRIRIGA integrated workplace management systems, ISS connects people and places closer digitally. This enables our operations team to respond proactively and establish a strong data platform for customers.
IBM TRIRIGA is a market-leading smart building management solution that makes building work smarter, reduces energy costs for energy efficient buildings, and reduces maintenance and operation cost. It helps on real estate and facility management, capital project management, space management, facility maintenance and environmental and energy management. Adopting this tool can improve people’s comfort and productivity while reducing costs, using artificial intelligence and nearly real-time insights to help organizations create a safe and productive workplace.
To meet the diversified service demand from ABB’s 70 sites, ISS has set up a Helpdesk at Shanghai HQ. With customer service representatives providing timely email reply and hotline response services for all ABB employees, ISS creates a productive, more flexible workplace experience for the customer.
Best practice in energy saving
At ABB Xiamen Hub, the administrative stairs and carport lighting are manually controlled, which leads to power waste and safety hazards if they are not turned off in time. Therefore, Che Qihui, electrical engineer of ISS Engineering Department, led the implementation of the technical transformation.
After nearly 2 months of continuous testing and optimization, the radar body sensor light, sound control and infrared body sensor were finally used to achieve the automation control, combining with the different layout of each region.
In total of 246 lights were renovated from 12 administrative corridors and 11 carports, saving customers about 26,000 RMB every year, which has been highly appreciated by the client.
Joint training to achieve win-win
Aiming for higher operation capability and better service, ISS invited ABB IFM AMEA leaders to hold a joint training at HQ in April. The 2-day online and offline workshop for all ABB project managers included courses of financial skills, contract management, HSE site management, compliance management, cleaning standard process, hard service management, and leadership training.
This training not only helps our project managers to better demonstrate the core competitiveness of ISS in the service process, but also helps our employees acquire cutting-edge management skills. The two-day project training obtained both good feedback from both trainees and the client.
