In today's fast-paced world, businesses are constantly looking for ways to improve their operations and increase efficiency. One such method that has gained popularity in recent years is the use of collaborative robots, or "cobots." These robots work alongside human workers to automate tasks, reducing the time and effort required for routine processes. In this case study, we explore how a high street bank campus in the UK implemented cobotics to streamline their facilities management processes, resulting in significant improvements in productivity, safety, and customer experience.
Challenge
Our client, a major UK high street banking group, brought together 2,500 staff from three separate locations to a new flagship campus in Scotland. The client wanted the working environment to be of the highest standard, to welcome employees when it opened—and attract fresh talent to the campus in the future.
The environment already had high levels of cleanliness, but the visibility of cleaning to returning employees was a key priority for our client. We also needed to help bolster the cleaning team, effectively managing resource demands, while also improving the wellbeing of placemakers.
Solution
ISS used cobotic cleaning—where collaborative robots work alongside our placemakers—to reduce a large portion of the manual vacuuming tasks on campus. With no visible decrease in standards, there is evidence that our cobots are extracting more of the finer and ingrained dust particles from the flooring, ensuring a fresher and more vibrant floor surface.
Separate studies have also shown that this is improving the air quality within the building. The sight of cobots operating in autonomous mode has intrigued the bank’s employees, increasing the visibility of cleaning processes, while highlighting the effort and innovation that goes into maintaining and improving the organisation’s workspaces.
